Weeding Season Again

Nothing like a relaxing afternoon pulling up weeds. Didn't get very far, but it's coming along. The rest of the garden full of oxallis, but I'll start with this patch. I'm hoping to transplant a couple of trees and move the blueberry barrels up here. I'm hoping that this nice weather holds, especially next weekend when there will be a pruning workshop. Ah, winter.

I also love pulling up weeds. Oxalis is a challenge - you have to dig them up and make sure you get all the - what do you call those things? And- why don't you like celosia? (I don't like it but I don't know why).

Digging oxalis can be demoralizing. I don't have the temperament. We smother it with a layer of newspaper covered with a layer of mulch. Quick and effective, especially if you pull any stragglers that make it through the newspaper and if you repeat the process the second year.

I have a yellow oxalis spiralis in my garden and it is a treasured plant. I use it for borders in my garden. It doesn't behave like yours. It stays where you put it and seldom self seeds. It is a wonderful plant flowering all year round. It is indeed weeding season for me as well and could do with some help. I sometimes use round up around the outer edges to assist. Hate to do that but wish for an alternative other than manual labour.
